Watchman

I am a watchman at the gate,
I see who’s coming
and I see who’s going.
I listen to the messengers,
and I read the writings on the wall.
I’m looking for the sign of the times,
because I need to warn the people,
before our city falls.

I am an old man now,
I’m not fit to be a soldier, anymore.
I can not defend democracy on my own,
all I can do is ring the bell—
when I see the fascists approaching.

I’ve been accused of crying wolf,
and of scaring the patriots,
over nothing.
The younger watchers laugh at me—
when I tell them,
of our impending doom.

It is true, my arm is tiring,
and my strength is ending.
And most of the citizens,
have chosen to ignore me.
But, If you were to ask me—
why am I still sounding the alarm,
I would not hesitate in telling you:

“I see more tyranny arriving,
but, none of it appears, to be leaving.”

Commentary: People I talk to—tell me don’t worry this hatred will eventually blow over. America’s people are good, we will overcome. But, what makes us think that we are so great? Have the prosperity-religion evangelicals returned to our “founding fathers Christian values”? All over the world citizens are protesting government tyranny. Countries collapse and communities are destroyed all the time. We have already had one civil war, do you really believe the outcome of a second one will be good for the country? Are you serious, when you say: our children will be able to survive it, or are you just hoping, just like I am? So I have one huge favor to ask of you: Can you help me, vote the republicans out—before they start martial law, take over the military and steal our civil-rights—because they will continue to incite hate, unless they’re removed from office?

It is only in recent years, as I have seen that pride turn into self-righteousness, and that self-righteousness into self-pity and aggression, that I have realized just how wrong it was not to be completely open about the failings I witnessed. Confronting lies sometimes means confronting difficult truths about one’s self and one’s own country. It is much easier to forgive yourself and condemn another, than the other way round; but this is something that everyone must do. Finally, do not ever imagine that your world cannot collapse, as ours did. This may seem the most obvious lesson to be passed down, but only because it is the most important. One moment I was enjoying an idyllic adolescence in my home city of Lodz, and the next we were on the run. Perhaps it is because I was only a child that I did not notice the storm clouds that were gathering, but I believe that many who were older and wiser than me at that time also shared my childlike state.” Excerpts from I Survived the Warsaw Ghetto

“These are people who have chosen hate and ideology as a drug of choice to numb the pain of underlying issues and grievances, and so we treat this the same way we treat addiction,” said Myrieme Churchill, the executive director of Parents for Peace. Excerpt from: Desperate families are seeking groups that deprogram extremists

“We (the founding fathers of our nation) hold these truths to be self-evident (these truths are universal and non-debatable), that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights (these rights are equal for everyone, because they have value in our Creator’s Eyes), that among these are Life (you have the right to live), Liberty (you have the right to freedom) and the pursuit of Happiness (you have the right to choose for yourself).
Even though we don’t all agree with each other about the Bible. The Declaration of Independence is broader than that and acknowledges that there is an expected gratitude and accountability to God. However, America needs to be warned: Since the right to attain life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is tied-in to our Creator, we can’t remove God from the equation. Otherwise, we won’t have a basis for our right to expect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in our children’s future!”
Excerpt from A New Look at America’s Christian Heritage

“It is we who nourish the ‘Soul Of The World’, and the world we live in will be either better or worse, depending on whether we become better or worse.” By: Paulo Coelho

“In order for a government to become a fascist regime, the church must allow itself to be swallowed by the state. In order for a government to remain democratic, the state must be kept separated from the church—so that it isn’t tempted to swallow the other.” By: A. Freeman
