I’m All In

I played all my cards.
I took the gamble.
Let the wheel spin—
where it ends—
will be my fortune.

If I win, I’ll play again.
If I lose,
whatever happens to me—
will be my fault.
No one else is to blame.

I went for broke;
the joke’s on me;
I played my last hand.
I was chasing
the “American Dream”!

Spanish Translation (Refugee Version)

He jugado todas mis cartas.
Voy a apostar.
Que la rueda gire,
donde termine, será mi fortuna.

Si gano, volveré a jugar.
Si pierdo,
lo que me pase, será mi culpa.
Nadie más tiene la culpa.

He ido a por todas;
la broma es para mí;
he jugado mi última mano.
¡Ahora tendré que pedir clemencia!

How to get migration right

“Since it’s often impossible to get a reasonable sense of what will happen in the future, it’s unfair to blame people with good intentions who end up worse off as a result of unforeseen circumstances. This leads to the conclusion that compassion, not blame, is the appropriate attitude towards those who act in good faith but whose bets in life don’t pay off […] Despair thrives where empathy is missing; right now, our lack of compassion for one another is killing us…No matter how smart we think we are, there’s a hard limit on what we can know, and we could easily end up on the losing end of a big bet. We owe it to ourselves, and others, to build a more compassionate world.” Excerpt from The mathematical case against blaming people for their misfortune

“The most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing to lose.” By: James Baldwin

“I would rather die standing than live on my knees.” By: Emilio Zapata

“We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience.” By: Martin Luther King, Jr.

“You already know enough. So do I. It is not knowledge we lack. What is missing is the courage to understand what we know and to draw conclusions.” By: Sven Lindqvist

“Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete.” Bible, Romans 12:2
