Lifesaver

When you’re a hero,
There’s a danger,
That the one you’re defending,
Will also, take you down.
You see, the one you’re aiding,
Will only live,
By sucking the breath, out of you.
So a first responder needs to be:
Brave, strong and well-rested.
Because you never know,
How long things will take,
To fix, from being wrong.
For every night, there is a call,
For a hero, to save the day.
But all I can do, is pretend not to lie,
As I watch my lifesaver, slowly die.

Spanish Translation

Cuando eres un salvavidas
existe el peligro,
que el que estás defendiendo,
también te derribe.
Porque, el que estás ayudando,
sólo vivirá,
chupándote el aliento.
Así que un socorrista necesita ser:
Valiente, fuerte y sin fatigo.
Porque nunca se sabe,
cuánto tiempo se tardará,
Para arreglar, lo que no está bien.
Porque cada noche, hay una llamada,
Por un héroe, para salvar el día.
Pero todo lo que puedo hacer,
es fingir que no miento,
mientras veo a mi salvador,
morir lentamente.

Commentary: Our heroes are all the doctors, nurses, medical technicians and first responders that are fighting this pandemic. It is very important that we do our part, like using personal protection equipment, social distancing and staying at home, so that they can also have, a fighting chance to survive.

“In every encounter, we either give life or we drain it; there is no neutral exchange.” By: Brennan Manning
