I’m terrified to travel

I’m afraid to lose myself in unfamiliar places,
to be another one, of those desolate faces.

I’m scared of getting lost, of being isolated,
and disconnected from those I love.

I’m anxious about the unknown, the uncertain,
and the journey’s unexpected twists and turns.

I worry about all the things that could go wrong,
and of all the ways, a trip could prolong.

But despite all of my phobias, I’m obliged to try,
to break out of this cocoon and spread my wings to fly.

When I’m flying so high,
I might fall off that plane.

But the tragedy is—
that I will bring everyone down—around me;

everyone who isn’t grounded;
everyone who dares to defy the law of gravity.
