I have a cancer of the spirit,
That’s bending my spine.
I want instant gratification,
Because my thoughts are selfish.
And my being is prideful.
It grieves my heart,
That my generation’s faith has faltered.
How can we remain righteous,
When the evil capitalists,
Have made gluttony too easy?
I can’t resist temptation,
But then it leads to indulgence,
Finally it leads to intoxication.
And when you binge,
It all leads to destruction.
It’s not, that I don’t have morals.
So why haven’t I confessed
This public shame before?
Am I afraid what people might think of me,
If I wear my religion upon my sleeve?

How to Find Balance in the Age of Indulgence
Commentary: The human spirit encompasses morality, ethics, and a sense of right and wrong. When it is unbalanced, it can cause a cancer of the spirit, a disease that can eat away at the core of a person’s being. One of the most insidious actions that can unbalance the human spirit is gluttony, as it is a vice that is difficult to resist and can lead to moral and spiritual decay.
For those who follow the Christian faith, remaining righteous can be a challenge in a society that encourages instant gratification, especially when greedy capitalists have made it so easy to indulge in alcohol; cigarettes; gambling; pornography; and illicit drugs. While it may be common to blame external factors for our shortcomings, we cannot absolve ourselves of the responsibility to resist temptation and be mindful of its irreversible consequences.
Temptation is a slippery slope that can quickly lead to indulgence and intoxication, which can in turn lead to personal destruction. This is a stark reminder for anyone with an addictive personality, that temptation must not be taken lightly. Furthermore, it’s important to note that while we can and should resist temptation, addiction is a complex disease that often requires more than just willpower and it’s important to seek help if needed.
However, it is not only conservatives who face this struggle, as all people are vulnerable to the temptation of the flesh and the seduction of wealth. While we may be afraid to speak up against it, it doesn’t mean we are without morals. It is essential for us to become more aware of the public shame that is brought on by this issue, even if we are called hypocrites or become targeted by greedy business lawyers.
To our children’s detriment, many capitalist forces possess no scruples when it comes to marketing their vices and smut through the internet to future generations. We must rally against these unprincipled business owners who seek to promote the sale of this poison. We must become the watchful parents who take responsibility for our actions, and resist the dark web of corporations and corrupt politicians that enable them, from dictating our moral standards, as they undoubtedly undermine our society’s culture.
“Desire for pleasure is much more powerful, than the memory of pain.” When we’re feeling exhausted and our resistance levels are down, we can deceive ourselves into believing that we deserve a little illicit fun in our lives. But there’s a reason, why it’s called a guilty pleasure—you will be punished for it—it could be immediately or become a long-term addiction that haunts you and your loved ones.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world that he doesn’t exist, and by believing, that he doesn’t exist, we also believe the lie, that sin doesn’t exist, and that’s how he traps us. The devil always goes for broke. He will exploit you, until he breaks you, and after he breaks you, he has no use for you. That’s literally what “a means to an end” means.
“The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern. Where there is no vision, the people perish…. Many seek the ruler’s favor; but every man’s judgment comes from The Lord. There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps. The wise fear The Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.” Bible, Proverbs 29:7,18,26; 14:12,15,16
